- 2 cups water
- 4 tablespoons sugar
- pinch of salt
- 3 cups, sifted all purpose flour
- 5 eggs
- 5 cups peanut oil
- powdered sugar or regular white sugar for dusting
- toasted seasame seeds (optional)
To make some delicious and fun Chinese doughnuts that are popular with all members of the family, we will first of all mix the 2 cups of water, 4 tablespoons of sugar and pinch of salt in a large saucepan over medium heat.
Bring to a boil and stir until the sugar and salt dissolve. Next, turn off the heat and slowly add the flour into the pan. Continue stirring to make sure the flour is thoroughly mixed. Set the mixture aside to cool down.
Using a mixer on low speed, slowly beat the eggs and the now cooled mixture.
Now, we will heat the oil in a wok. Heat it until it reaches 375ºF. While your oil is heating, prepare a rack to drain off the oil from the cooked doughnuts nearby and fill a large bowl with the powdered sugar to dust the Chinese doughnuts.
Once the oil has reached 375ºF, use an ice cream scooper or large spoon to slowly add the dough to the oil – about 7 or 8 scoops should be enough. Don’t put too many in as the doughnuts will double their size once they hit the oil!
Cook the doughnuts until they are golden brown. Remove them and drain on the rack. Once drained, put them in the prepared sugar bowl to dust them with the powdered sugar. Repeat this process until you have finished all the dough.
To make the Chinese doughnuts even more authentic you can add some seasame seeds. Simply toss the fried doughtnuts in a bowl with some toasted seasame seeds and cover them.You can even add a touch of sugar, too.
